AI paint visualizer apps for a room photo

The useful difference is not the AI label. It is how each tool handles your photo, colour request, surfaces, and final check.

A real TestMyPaint render, measured against the requested colour code.

The short answer

Start with TestMyPaint to compare requested colours on your room and see measured drift. The other tools differ by device, catalogue, and surface editing; use their profiles below as factual checks, then confirm the finalist with a physical sample.

Choose by the decision you need to make

No visualizer answers every paint question. Start with the workflow, colour source, and device that fit your project.

Facts checked 5 August 2026

01

TestMyPaint

Comparing a measured wall-colour shortlist on your own room photo in a browser.

Access
Browser on phone, tablet, or computer. Nothing to install.
Own photo
Upload one room photo, then compare the original with every repaint.
Colours
Choose from 48 curated colours, enter a custom hex, or use the Paint brands selector with 1,532 source-checked colours across eight US and Canadian manufacturer catalogues. Signed-in visitors can request as many as five at once.
Free path
One render without signup or a card. A free account adds two credits.
Know before choosing
No exterior mode or live AR. UK and Australian catalogues are still in preparation, and wall targeting can miss or affect nearby surfaces.

02

Paint AI

Apple-device editing across interior and exterior surfaces with colours from several paint brands.

Access
iPhone and iPad app. The App Store also lists Apple-silicon Mac support.
Own photo
Take or choose a photo, then work on walls, ceilings, doors, trim, façades, roofs, or shutters.
Colours
The developer lists real paint-brand colours, photo colour matching, and similar-colour suggestions.
Free path
Free to download, with optional in-app purchases listed by Apple.
Know before choosing
The current listing is Apple-only, and some ongoing use sits behind paid subscriptions.

03

Paintit.ai

A browser prompt when you want to describe colours and surfaces in natural language.

Access
Web tool that starts from an uploaded photo and a written instruction.
Own photo
Upload a room, then describe which walls, ceilings, floors, or other surfaces should change.
Colours
Accepts a specific shade, a broader mood, or a multi-surface colour scheme in the prompt.
Free path
The company describes the paint-colour visualizer as free to start.
Know before choosing
A broad prompt can change more than wall colour, so inspect furnishings, geometry, and surfaces before relying on the concept.

04

Repaint House

An iPhone or iPad workflow for interior and exterior colours from several major paint brands.

Access
iPhone and iPad app, with projects described as syncing to the web.
Own photo
Upload or take a photo; the developer says the app distinguishes surfaces such as siding, shutters, trim, and cabinets.
Colours
The listing names colours from Behr, Sherwin-Williams, Benjamin Moore, PPG, Valspar, and other brands.
Free path
Free to download, with optional in-app purchases listed by Apple.
Know before choosing
The app is newer than the brand tools here, and its automated surface choices still need a careful visual check.

Where TestMyPaint fits

Use the preview to narrow, not to skip the swatch

TestMyPaint lets you compare a room-photo shortlist and shows the requested code beside a measured Delta E colour difference. That makes colour drift visible instead of hiding it behind the image.

Its Paint brands selector includes source-checked US and Canadian catalogues, while custom hex keeps the shortlist open. Wall targeting can still miss or affect nearby surfaces. Screen colour, room light, and paint sheen also vary, so confirm the finalist with a physical swatch.

Questions before you choose

What makes an AI paint visualizer different from a colour overlay?

AI tools rebuild parts of the image so shadows, texture, and edges can look more natural. That can also introduce changes you did not request, which is why the whole result needs inspection.

Can an AI paint app match an exact paint colour?

Some tools accept brand colours or a custom code, but the rendered image can still drift. TestMyPaint reports Delta E against the requested code; every option still needs a physical swatch before purchase.

Will an AI visualizer change only the walls?

Not always. Wall targeting may spill onto floors, trim, furniture, or decor, and generative tools can alter objects. Compare the full image with the original rather than judging colour alone.
